More information about the Arcy-sur-Cure caves by bike
The caves of Arcy-sur-Cure are a major prehistoric site where one can discover natural caverns carved by the Cure River into Jurassic limestone. They are famous for:
- A group of caves classified as a historical monument and very ancient remains of human occupation, with very rich archaeological levels from the Paleolithic period.
- The Great Cave , open to the public, features spectacular limestone concretions and rock paintings dating back approximately 28,000 to 30,000 years .
- Other cavities and natural features around the site reflect a long geological and human history.
The temperature inside the caves remains around ~12°C, so bring warm clothing if you visit the inside.
Guided tours take place from April 4th to November 4th (except on certain days outside of peak season)
Quiet paths and small roads : the main access to the caves is via small roads in the Yonne (often very quiet), perfect for touring bikes or gravel bikes.
